Camping is a wonderful experience, but it can also have a lot of ups and downs if you don’t plan accordingly. Even though camping is meant to be an “in the raw” experience, there are still plenty of things that you can do to plan for a successful and comfortable camping trip. Packing your coolers is one of them – after all – you want to eat, right?
Here are some quick and easy tips for packing your coolers.
Have at least ONE high-quality cooler.
There are plenty of budget coolers out there, but you need at least one good one to store all of your perishables. Keep your highly perishable foods – meat, dairy, etc. – in one cooler, and make a rule that everything in this container must be double wrapped and placed in Ziploc bags. Plus, coolers double as seating, so sturdy ones definitely have their advantages.
Cut up fruits and veggies at home.
You may think that leaving fruits and veggies whole will keep them fresher, but the truth is that it becomes harder to peel and slice on the go. If everyone in the family will eat whole fruits, then by all means, bring them whole. But things like carrot sticks, celery sticks, orange slices and the like are better pre-washed and cut. In the very least, wash all fruits and vegetables.
Plan ahead for meals.
Leftovers don’t do well on camping trips, so choose something fresh that you will cook up each night. There are many easy, cheap and filling dishes you can make, such as franks and beans, chili and hot dogs. By knowing what you’re making, you can bring along the proper sides and eating utensils as well.
Freeze water bottles to use as ice packs.
If you need more ice packs, freeze bottles of water and place them at the bottom of the cooler. When they thaw out, you can drink the water or use it for washing hands.
Learn how to use your tent.
There’s nothing worse than trying to set up your tent when it’s dark and rainy, and you can’t figure the darn thing out! Practice your tent beforehand, and know how to set it up and take it down. If you choose the Camper Van Tent from the Monster Factory USA, you can enjoy super easy setup and takedown, plus impressive rainproof specifications that will keep your coolers safe and fresh.
